The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and its partner, betPawa, have signed an enhanced partnership deal, extending the innovative Locker Room Bonus initiative to the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, beginning with the 2025/2026 season.
Since becoming partners with the GFA in August 2022, betPawa has rewarded winning teams with GH¢9,200 per game, distributed as GH¢400 to each of the 20 players and three technical staff members.
Under the new deal, betPawa is doubling down on its commitment by bringing the Locker Room Bonus to the 20-team women’s league, directly helping to support athletes and raise the standard of football across the country.
Last season, betPawa piloted the initiative with the Women’s FA Cup, which saw Faith Ladies clinch a historic first title.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the head of Local Marketing CSR at betPawa, Ms Borah Omary Ndanyungu, said the Locker Room Bonus, designed to celebrate hard work and reward winners with payments delivered seamlessly via mobile money, has proven its impact by driving competitive spirit and unearthing new talent across Ghana’s top football leagues.
“At betPawa, we see ourselves as visionaries, and we want to make a tangible difference in the lives of athletes and the communities they inspire. By extending the same rewards to the Women’s Premier League, betPawa is championing gender equity and ensuring that female athletes receive the recognition and support they deserve,” she stated.
According to her, the Locker Room Bonus is betPawa’s way of putting players first, empowering them to shine on the pitch and build brighter futures off it.
“By sponsoring both leagues with equal support, we’re proud to lead the charge in building a more professional and sustainable future for African football,” she added.
The General Secretary of the GFA, Mr Prosper Harrison Addo, described the move as a landmark motivation for the women’s league, stating that the initiative is a clear statement that women’s football is a priority and that the FA is committed to investing in its growth.
The skipper of Women’s FA Cup champions Faith Ladies, Beauty Abena Julius, commended the GFA and betPawa for the initiative, which she stated was a driving force behind their success, despite their relegation from the league.
BetPawa is expected to spend approximately $380,843 across both the men’s and women’s leagues in the 2025/26 season.
